LM lesson 5 Tuesday the 1st of December

Today you are going to carry on with your course work, I told you this would be done by Christmas!

The next slide is a very important slide because it is so closely linked to the title of the question

How ethnicity is portrayed in "Afrika Shox"

points to think about:
  • what are the ethnic groups in the video?
  • what are their roles?
  • how the video portrays them? (get into detail here, talk about mis-en scene. camera shots etc.)
  • Is it in your opinion more about wealth?
When we first see the video we think the protagonist is a poor third world black man and this is a common thought, which would give the video a very obvious meaning but when we study the video we can see the protagonist is actually wearing Dog tags which means he use to serve in the forces, by his clothes I would think in Vietnam, this would give the video a slightly deeper meaning. keep this in mind.

remember you are getting marked on representation and media language but also about the effect things have on the audience.
